Asthma Cause no. 1 - killer enzymes in food
On the trail of the causes of asthma
Asthma can have many causes. In this miniseries, we will describe the most common causes in brief.
Killer enzymes in food
One of the most common causes of asthma are killer enzymes in food. This is the most likely cause if your asthma has developed as a progression from other allergies, the so-called winter effect. It is the result of consuming food containing aggressive killer enzymes, such as flour products, dairy products or industrial enzyme-containing products.

Test for the cause
To test for this cause, a short term change to the “stone age (paleo) diet” is required. This means no flour products such as bread, pizza, etc; no dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese, etc; no industrial fruit juices. . For many asthmatics, a 5 day rule applies and they find they are free from asthma on the 6th day of the new diet. However, we have feedback that some people are still suffering on days 6 and 7, only on day 8 are they symptom-free. There is also evidence that for some asthmatics a 21 day rule applies for consumption of killer enzymes. If you still have asthma symptoms after following the paleo diet, the cause of your asthma is not dietary.
Second and subsequent tests for the cause
Once there is significant reduction in your allergy symptoms you can begin testing for the cause. Ideally you should follow the “stone age diet” for a while, then allow yourself, for example, your favourite pizza. You must then continue with the “stone age diet” and wait to discover if, after five days (or whatever length of time you have discovered is your “rule”), your asthma symptoms return. If they do, then you know the pizza contains killer enzymes which you need to avoid. You can continue this series of tests and intermittently test a food to determine whether it contains killer enzymes.

Relief, but not a complete elimination of asthma symptoms
The cause of asthma is very complex. In many cases, there are a variety of different causes. To identify these causes clearly requires some determination and strict adherence to the rules. Many asthmatics describe only a relief of asthma symptoms after they have switched to the “stone age diet”. This is an indication that the industrial diet is not the sole cause of their asthma. However, it is very important to maintain the “stone age diet” in order to further analyse the other factors involved. In later articles we will discuss other causes of asthma.
