Asthma Cause no. 7 - Mites - Part 2
On the trail of the causes of asthma
Asthma can have many causes. In this miniseries, we will describe the most common causes in brief. This is part seven of the series. It is important that you have read and followed the first six parts. Only by consistently following the rules, will you identify your personal causes.
Dust mites as the cause and trigger
The enzymes in the feces of dust mites may be the cause or the trigger of asthma, or both. The enzymes are very aggressive and can destroy tight junctions in the human body. It is extremely important for an asthmatic to know if dust mites are the cause of their asthma or, if not, what the causes are. If the mites are only a trigger, the cause needs to be identified in order to close the tight junctions so that the dust mites are no longer a problem.

Avoid the house dust mite
If dust mites are the cause of the asthma they need to be avoided at all costs. Mites live at an optimal temperature of 25°C and a relative humidity of at least 70%.
Beds are paradise for house dust mites
60% of all mites live in mattresses and duvets in the bedroom. 20% of mites live in upholstered furniture and only 4% are found in carpets. Unfortunately, house dust mites are able to withstand the washing machine and the freezer, and even the vacuum cleaner. After constant vacuuming for five minutes, the majority of house dust mites are able to survive.
Simulate the mountains!
House dust mites cannot survive at a relative humidity of less than 50%. These conditions can be found at high altitudes, over 1500 meters above sea level. In these regions there are no mites, so allergy and asthma sufferers are recommended to spend holidays at high altitudes. Asthmatics, for whom the cause is the house dust mite, are recommended to attempt to simulate a mountain climate at home. Using dehumidifiers, the relative humidity in the home can be stabilized at 45%. However, it is important to run the dehumidifiers at all times, not just while the asthmatic is in the home, to maintain a low humidity permanently. This will ensure that the home is free of all mites as they can only survive a very short time below 50% humidity.
The search for the cause is the key
Only by discovering the true causes can the asthmatic alleviate or eliminate their asthma. If you have enjoyed this miniseries, you can learn more about the rules to eliminate asthma in the book “Allergies – The Real Causes”. By signing up in the body-network community you will have the opportunity to chat with other allergy sufferers, share your experiences and learn even more about the causes of allergies.
